And I would walk 500 miles…
Well, today’s been a day and a half!
Up early to take advantage of the hotel breakfast, and the early entry to the park. Breakfast was good, and getting into the park early was, well weird. It was so quiet you almost felt like you shouldn’t be there!
Started off on Dream Flight, which we’ve been dying to try. It’s a suspended dark ride, similar to Peter Pan’s Flight at Disney. Chris isn’t allowed to ride it, because he couldn’t climb a ladder if he needed to be evacuated. What they do have though, is a VR version. So, I got into one of the buggies on my own with a headset on, and Chris was set up in front of a computer with a headset too. He could see what I was seeing, and we could talk to each other. It’s a fantastic idea and I’d love to see more places make use of the concept.
We then wandered round the Fairytale Forest, that takes up a large chunk of the park. Your fairy tales here aren’t the disneyfied ones you’re used to! It’s definitely closer to the original ones, and there’s also a few of the less well known ones included. Long Neck can be heard telling some of them as you pass!
We meandered back towards the hotel via Carnival Festival and Vogel Rok. Carnival is Efteling’s equivalent of It’s A Small World, and Vogel Rok is an indoor coaster.
We had an afternoon siesta, then headed back to the park, where we rode Pagoda, a rotating observation platform. I’m hoping to go back on it later in the trip and take a video of the full rotation, as the views are stunning.
Main goal this evening was seeing Caro, which is the show at the Efteling Theatre. Closest thing I can relate it to is Festival of the Lion King. It is amazing. I’m not giving any details so I don’t spoil it – if you do ever come here, go see it!
The one down side is that it finishes after park close, so instead of walking back through the park, we had to walk halfway round the outside. Thankfully the weather held, but if we do that again, we’re taking the car that night!
Tomorrow morning may be a lazy one!
