Long day but oh so worth it.
Today was our full day at Beekse Bergen. We arrived too late to really enjoy the park last night – though a lazy evening sat on the veranda as the sun set was just what we needed.
After a buffet breakfast we headed straight there for opening. First stop, the car safari. Chris did debate before we went if he really wanted to put his poor car at risk, but it was so worth it. So much so, in fact, we did it twice. First thing, then late afternoon. Always worth it as the animals’ different behaviour patterns makes each drive unique.
The drive takes you past everything from Scottish highland cows, to African lions. Early morning meant a lot of them had just been fed and were milling about. We even had a run in with a camel. More on them, later.
Once we got back round to the beginning, we headed into the walking part of the park. And boy, did we walk. Well, I say “we”. I walked. He exercised his thumb on his controller! I finished the day on 12k steps, although I’m expecting to beat that over the next few days at Efteling!
After spending most of the day walking about we headed back to the car about an hour before close to redo the car safari. Where we had another run in with the camels. Seriously, they were walking down the road, inspecting the vehicles and helping themselves to a “toll” of any leaves that you had caught at the bottom of your windscreen in order to let you pass. And yes, there’s video of it!
After a long day, we grabbed a quick dinner and are enjoying another lazy night on the veranda – seriously, it’s been worth it just for that alone!
Oh, and we need to pack up and get organised, ready to head to Efteling tomorrow!
I have so many picture from today, I’ve just added them all to a google album, which can be found here. Once we get home, I’ll find time to edit them and the videos from the dashcam into something coherent!
